Prepare the worst situation on the plane before taking off: know where you are sitting, how to open the emergency exit, have a safe posture if there is a collision.
The possibility of a plane crash is very rare
The probability of having a plane crash is very rare, about 1 in 1.2 million flights. However, this does not mean that you will never face this situation.
Cheryl A Schwartz, a former United Airlines flight attendant, shares experiences that improve survivability in accidents.
Know clearly your position in the plane
“I do not care how many times you fly on a Boeing 747. Remember that every time you sit down you must count the number of rows between your sitting position and the nearest exit in front and back of you in both left and right. ”
Know how to open the emergency exit
The safety instructions show you how to open the emergency exit and open the air cushion when necessary. You should know how to open the door and how to get out.
Get safety posture if there is a collision
Cross your hands, lean on the front seat, and put your forehead on the crossed hands, head cradle on seat in front. You will be impacted a lot when the plane is falling. Therefore, fixing the position and posture reduces the risk of collision, protecting the head and neck from injury.
If there is no chair in the front, bend down as low as possible and hold the legs (head down, hug knees). In all situations, tighten the seat belt as tight as possible.
Avoid dropped luggage
Protect your head, neck and back with a blanket, coat, or anything else to keep you away from luggage which falling over during the crash.
Leave your baggage under the seat
Leave your luggage under the front seat. In case of accident, this luggage will protect you in case you slip from the seat belt and fall forward. Without a bag under front seat, you can completely slip into the gap under the front seat; it can break your leg or knee.
Leave your hand luggage and computer in the plane when you evacuate
Your luggage can be bought again. Nothing is more important than your life in the event of a plane crash. In addition, carrying objects can slow down the evacuation process, affecting the passengers after you.
“We only have 90 seconds to evacuate 600 passengers; otherwise we can save only 30 people. Therefore, we know how to make everyone safe, “Cheryl said.
Leave the seat and head toward the nearest and most convenient exit. Please help others if possible, and then run as far as possible to prevent you from the exploding aircraft.
Do not wait for anyone’s help
In the plane crash, police often found some of the passengers dead at the scene while they still wearing seat belts.
Sometimes passengers tend to wait for someone comes to tell them to unplug their seat belts and run away, or they do not know what to do. So knowing what to do when the plane falls in advance is essential.
In addition, some passengers could not escape the accident because they were so scared that they could not lift their feet.
After the plane crashed, police will still approach the scene to search for survivors. However, even if you are lucky enough to be alive when the plane touches the ground, the ability of escape is low because as soon afterwards the fire and smoke will cover the entire area.
