U Minh Ha mangrove forest has mangrove forest ecosystem with six flooding months and six dry months. Forests have very high value for biodiversity, landscape, environment, culture and history. The flora and fauna of this area are also very rich. 


U Minh Ha mangrove forest belongs to U Minh Ha National Park which is in the area of comunes: Khanh Lam, Khanh An, Khanh Binh Tay Bac and Tran Hoi of U Minh district and Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province.

The area of U Minh Ha mangrove forest

Melaleuca forests in U Minh Ha contiguous mangrove forests in U Minh Thuong (Kien Giang), with a total area of 35,000 ha. Of these, 8 256 hectares was recognized U Minh Ha National Park.

According to the current state of planning, U Minh Ha National Park has three subdivisions: subdivision of conserving forest ecosystems on peat soil; the subdivision of rehabilitation and using forest ecosystems sustainable; the subdivision of administrative services. Surrounding U Minh Ha National Park, there are 25 thousand hectares of forest and the land of buffer zone.

The history of U Minh Ha National Park

Before officially became U Minh Ha National Park in early 2006, this was a nature conservation area Vo Doi in the system of special-use forests of Vietnam. U Minh Ha National Park covers an area of nearly ten thousand hectares, of which nearly seven thousand hectares of forest, mainly forest is almost intact. This is the center of entire forests in U Minh forest which is quite strict protection to conserve the flora and fauna of forest on peat land, serve the scientific research; preserve the environment…

The biological diversity

The flora and fauna of Melaleuca forest U Minh Ha National Park is very rich. So far, studying found out: The flora has 79 families with more than 30 species of plants; the most typical is still melaleuca; animals have 32 species of mammals including 13 families; 74 species of birds, including dozens of rare birds and animals listed in the Red Data Book of the International Union for Conservation Nature (IUCN).

With aquatic animals, U Minh Ha forest is flooded in the rainy season is the breeding ground and the home of many species of freshwater fishes such as: catfish, perch, catfish, waterfall strabismus…

The value of U Minh Ha mangrove forest

According to scientific literature, U Minh Ha cajeput forests in Ca Mau are typical for the protection and stable ecological environment for the Ca Mau peninsula. People also call it as “a green lung” for the South of Vietnam. Its value and importance were recorded in the forest directory of countries in the Southeast Asia area.

Mangroves in this area have identities: thick layer of peat, red water; it is home of many rare animals and plants; the supply of forest products, rice farming, fruit crops, aquaculture, exploit fisheries and living area of the local communities.

During the Vietnam War, U Minh Ha Melaleuca forest was revolutionary base areas of the South, having great significance in the history of the heroic struggle of the people; the place associated with many historical sites of revolutionary and educating the patriotism of brave and unyielding U Minh Ha.

Tourism and economic

Coming to Ca Mau, tourists can sit on interest boat along Trem Trem River, Cai Tau and Doc River to explore mangrove forests in U Minh Ha.

Tourist area is about 1.708 ha, including the entire subdivision of administrative services and a part of submerged forests. The project of recreation and entertainment, traditional cultural areas, renewable forest village, the folk culinary area, traditional guest houses, animals areas and fishing area.

With meaningful and specific characteristics, recently, Ca Mau province has invested many billion VND to build infrastructure, built over 100 kilometers of asphalt, paving stone…. The road is winding, deep and running under the canopy of the forest has served prevention of forest fires, creating favorable conditions for residents living in the forest, opening for tourists.
